
COR® is a voluntary employer certification program intended to motivate employers to take a proactive role in occupational health and safety. COR® certification is issued by WorkSafeBC to an employer who has successfully implemented an effective OHSMS and has passed a certification audit.
The National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO®) and National Health & Safety Administrator (NHSA™) designations offer proof of competency in construction safety at a nationally-recognized level. This program delivers practical training in a range of construction safety management skills and principles.
The BCCSA's Traffic Control Person (TCP) Program is British Columbia's most established training program for traffic control. We train numerous TCPs across the province. Our program offers courses for both individuals new to traffic control and those seeking renewal.

The Student Audit Assignment is required to attain BCCSA’s COR® Internal Auditor certification. Microsoft Excel is required.
HMA covers 11 different hazardous materials and outlines the hazards associated with each material, as well as the negative health effects they can cause. HMA also covers recommended practices relating to the removal, control, and disposal of hazardous material. The materials covered are commonly found in restoration work, including lead, mould, chemicals, and more. HMA is also available at no cost to anyone employed in the fire and flood restoration industry.

BCCSA Regional Safety Advisors (RSAs) are available to assist contractors who have safety questions or concerns, are looking to develop safety programs and materials, or want to prepare for COR® (Certificate of Recognition). These services are available at no cost to all construction (Sector 72) employers, and select aggregate and ready-mixed employers.
Each RSA offers extensive knowledge of and experience in construction industry health and safety, and will focus on providing straightforward and practical assistance to all types and sizes of construction companies for whom meeting safety goals can sometimes be challenging. Travis Robertson is a health and safety professional with significant experience spanning a variety of industrial environments, including large infrastructure construction projects, heavy manufacturing facilities, refinery and grain terminals and residential and commercial construction sites. He is one of the first people to receive the NCSO® designation in BC. Travis has an extensive emergency services background with many years of ski patrol experience and more than a decade with Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue. He is a passionate instructor and brings tremendous energy to the various classes he teaches. He loves sharing new safety ideas and pushing the industry forward.
Tanya Steele has been a business owner, professional trainer, certified virtual facilitator, CHSC and safety advisor for 30+ years. Over the years she has worked in several industries including mining and construction. During her career she has been actively involved in many associations to help promote safety in industry. Some examples include, sitting on the NCSO® Committee, NAOSH Chair, VRCA Education Committee, and Regional VP for the CSSE. She’s been interviewed for the Journal of Commerce, Canadian Occupational Safety Magazine, and published in the BC/Alberta Construction Magazine. She currently co-hosts the Safety Debris podcast and is a Regional Safety Advisor (RSA) for the BCCSA. Her goal is to assist owners, supervisors, managers, JOHSC members and HR leaders understand OHS legislation/COR® standards, help them implement safety in the workplace and equip them with the skills to train their workers effectively. Ultimately, to save lives and increase a business’s success.
Jerry brings more than 15 years of health & safety and environmental experience to his role as an RSA, drawing from work in a wide range of industries, including oil and gas, utilities, construction and heavy industrial.
With a diploma in OHS from the British Columbia Institute of Technology, and a Risk Management designation from Simon Fraser University, Jerry has utilized his skills and knowledge to consult with numerous clients on matters ranging from COR® audits and program development to training, inspections and WorkSafeBC compliance initiatives.
Elyse Taylor is a health and safety professional with extensive professional experience in industries such as oil and gas, construction and healthcare. Elyse worked many years as an OFA3 oilfield medic and completed her CSO certification in 2013. She went on to continue her education earning a Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety from Simon Fraser University in 2017 and holds an NCSO® designation.
She is also an instructor that believes that health & safety training and education is a key area of focus for any effective HSE program and is dedicated to providing quality courses to her students.
Elyse has a passion for company culture development, creating effective systems to simplify safety where possible and enjoys being a resource to workers, employers and the construction industry.
Suzanne is a health and safety veteran who has worked as a regulatory board officer for WorkSafeBC and the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission. She has several years’ experience working for a medium-sized construction owner/prime contractor and currently provides health and safety advice to many local small construction businesses to improve safety over the short term and to promote long-term health benefits.
Suzanne is a certified ergonomist and promotes occupational wellness through physical and mental exercise. She has a keen interest in studying the social factors at play in dynamic work sites and how they impact safety and health outcomes.
After immigrating to Canada from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dario began working in construction in 1996. He’s worked since as a construction labourer and has operated a home renovation, flooring, and tiling business. In addition, he’s worked in security management, private investigation and consulting. In 2014, he transitioned his focus to safety, including a role as a construction company safety and HR manager. In 2018, he launched the Interior Safety Network Ltd., a safety training and consultancy. Since 2021, he has worked as a safety consultant-contractor for the Trans Mountain Expansion Project. Dario is an accredited NCSO® and is certified as a BCCSA COR® External Auditor.
Art began his construction career in the 1970s and has seen safety become the most important factor of construction projects. His experience includes more than 25 years as a journeyman ironworker and both mining and sawmill construction. He also holds a Certificate of Health and Safety from BCIT. Knowing that industry experience and safety knowledge would be a formidable combination, he moved from the trades to a full-time safety advisory career. He joined the BCCSA as a Regional Safety Advisor in 2014.

David is a Canadian Registered Safety Professional who offers significant experience in the construction industry. He has worked as a consultant and trainer, as an occupational safety officer with WorkSafeBC, and as a safety manager on the province’s largest public infrastructure project. As both a collaborative and down-to-earth safety professional, he believes in building strong relationships with his clients and working with them to find the optimal solutions to achieve their goals.
As a Regional Safety Advisor, he’s committed to finding practical and pragmatic solutions to complex safety challenges.
